Retail Circle learned that on July 23rd, the China Chain Store Association (CCFA) announced the "2023 China Supermarket TOP100" based on the survey results of the industry's basic situation in 2023. Among them, Wal Mart, Yonghui, Kangcheng Investment (RT Mart), CR Vanguard, Hema, Wumart, Lianhua, Jiajiayue, Zhongbai Warehousing, and Aunt Qian rank in the top ten.

Retail Circle "summarizes the following ten key points by comparing the 2022 Top 100 Supermarkets in China and the development status of retail chain enterprises.

1、 In 2022, the top 100 supermarkets in China will be: Wal Mart, Yonghui Supermarket, Kangcheng Investment, CR Vanguard, Wumart Group, Hema, Lianhua Supermarket, Jiajiayue, Zhongbai Warehouse, and Hualian Yingchuang. Compared to 2022, the top ten spots on the 2023 China Supermarket TOP100 list have not undergone significant changes, with Hema surpassing Wumart and ranking fifth on the list.

2、 In 2023, the sales scale of the top 100 supermarket enterprises will be 868 billion yuan, with a total of 23800 stores, a decrease of 7.3% and 16.2% respectively compared to the top 100 supermarkets in 2022. Among the top 100 supermarket companies, there are 13 companies with sales of over 10 billion yuan, including 7 companies with sales of over 50 billion yuan. Among them, those with over 10 billion yuan but not in the top ten are: Bulbasaur Lotus, Liqun, and AEON.

3、 In terms of store quantity, among the top 100 supermarket companies in 2023, 33 companies have increased their store quantity, 20 companies have remained the same, but there are also 47 companies whose store quantity has decreased.

4、 It can be seen from the changes in the operating conditions of the top 100 supermarket enterprises in 2023 that in the first and second tier cities, the sales and the number of stores in the member stores and discount stores, including Wal Mart, Kaishike, Yaodi, Haoteshuo, Orozi, Heteshuo, etc., have increased significantly.

5、 Nearly half of the top 100 supermarkets in 2023 are operating steadily, with some coming from lower tier areas. Specifically, there were 44 companies with year-on-year sales growth, including 27 companies from lower tier cities such as Dazhang, Credit Building, Biyote, Huangshang, and Shoukang Yongle.

6、 Wal Mart (China) will achieve sales of 120.2 billion yuan in 2023, ranking first in the top 100 supermarkets. It is worth noting that Wal Mart (China) has ranked first among the "Top 100 Supermarkets in China in 2023" for three consecutive years. At the same time, Wal Mart (China) also topped the CCFA "Top 100 Chinese Chain Stores in 2023" in June this year.

7、 As a global warehousing and membership store giant, Costco's performance as an opening customer has always been a focus of industry attention. Compared to 2022, Costco has increased its number of stores from 2 to 5 in 2023, resulting in an increase in sales from 3 billion in 2022 to 5.5 billion, rising from 48th place to 26th place on the 2022 China Supermarket Top 50 list. With the further increase in the number of newly opened stores this year, it is believed that it will only be a matter of time before its scale exceeds 10 billion.

8、 It is worth noting that Qian Dama, who is only one place away from entering the TOP10 in 2022, finally reached the top ten for the first time in 2023 with a total of 13.7 billion yuan and 2936 stores. Since its establishment, Qian Dama has adhered to the "daily clearing" model, with a prominent indication of not selling overnight meat in the industry, and has rapidly grown in the industry.

9、 This time, Pangdonglai entered the "2023 China Supermarket TOP100" list for the first time, ranking 31st. In June of this year, it also entered the "2023 China Chain TOP100" list for the first time. Although the ranking is not too high, with a revenue of 4.6 billion and only 12 stores, Pangdonglai has already been elevated to the status of a "god" as a benchmark in the supermarket industry. Since the beginning of this year, Pangdonglai has made adjustments to supermarkets such as BuBuGao and Yonghui, resulting in a significant increase in customer traffic and revenue compared to before. In addition, supermarkets such as Zhongbai Warehousing and Metehao have also followed the Pangdonglai model and independently sought changes. It can be seen that Pangdonglai is sweeping the entire retail industry with an unstoppable momentum.

10、 The last place on the 2023 China Supermarket Top 100 list has not changed, still being Tianjin Yingbin Supermarket Trading Co., Ltd., with a total sales of about 540 million, a small change from last year's 560 million. The total number of stores is 5, unchanged.
